PPKS Miri to Host Community Blood Drive on January 18

Pusat Pembangunan Kemahiran Sarawak (PPKS) Miri will host a community blood drive at its main campus near Lutong from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18.

Staff, students and area residents are encouraged to participate in the blood drive to be held in its Student Center in cooperation with the Blood Bank Unit from Miri General Hospital. The main uses of blood are to treat patients with cancer, for women following childbirth, in emergency departments and for routine operations. It is also used for routine transfusions to those with blood diseases such as sickle cell and for those with low iron counts such as anemia.

Most donors are able to give blood three times a year. It usually takes less than an hour to help save someone’s life. Donors must be 17 years or older, in good general health and weigh at least 110 pounds. Walk-in donors are welcome. Enrollment is now open for PPKS Jan 2012 Intake

Interested applicants who wish to further their studies in technical skill-based programs are invited to enroll at PPKS Miri for January 2012 intake. Registration date is on the 9th of January 2012.

PPKS offers SKM (Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia) in various courses such as Graphic Design, Mechatronic, Industrial Electronic and Plantation. These courses are certified by the Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran (Department of Skills Development or JPK) under the Ministry of Human Resources. Upon 1 and a half to 2 year’s completion, students are expected to be efficient in their relevant skills as a preparation to meet the demands of the labor market. Those who are interested should bring copies of IC, school leaving certificate, SPM/SPMV/STPM certificate and a fee of RM120 for registration. Students enrolling the programme also stand to enjoy 10 percent discount provided their tuition fees are paid in full on or before 13th January 2012. Registration is now in progress until 31th January 2012 and walk-in registrations are welcome. Intakes are limited and places are awarded on first come first serve basis.

Apart from SKM, PPKS Miri is also offering short courses for industries with flexibly delivered programmes specifically designed to meet employers’ needs. PPKS training for the industries are a highly skilled and qualified group of tutors, many with industry experience themselves. Short courses can also benefit those who work for themselves and are self-employed. Aside from the career advantages short courses can offer, it may offer new ideas and skills, can really fire up the mind and inspire greater business success.
